"Jersey Tomatoes" Rescued from Sinking in Cape May Harbor Amid July 4th Festivities
During the July 4th weekend, while many enjoyed holiday festivities, Captain Jack Moran and his crew from Sea Tow Cape May worked diligently to prevent a 40-foot boat, aptly named "Jersey Tomatoes," from sinking in Cape May Harbor. The vessel was reported to be in dire straits, close to being completely submerged and at risk of leaking diesel fuel and oil into the harbor. With assistance from Cape May police and the U.S. Coast Guard, Moran's team used pumps to remove water from the boat and eventually towed it to the beach for further safety measures.
The boat, which had been moored in the harbor for several months without a permanent marina home, faced repeated issues with its anchorage, leading to its precarious state. This incident highlights the broader issue of abandoned boats along New Jersey’s coastline, which pose significant environmental and financial challenges due to the cost and complexity of removal. The situation has prompted legislative efforts, including a proposed $25 million fund to address the removal of abandoned vessels. The fate of "Jersey Tomatoes" now rests with the city, pending further decisions on its restoration or removal.
Tragic Multi-Vehicle Crash on Route 347 Claims Life of Teenager
A tragic accident on Route 347 in New Jersey claimed the life of a 17-year-old from Blue Bell, Pennsylvania. The incident occurred on Monday, July 1, at around 5:34 p.m., when the teen's Toyota crossed the center line and collided with a Ford pickup driven by a 56-year-old Bridgeton man. The crash involved a total of four vehicles, with the teen becoming heavily entrapped in his car. Despite the efforts of emergency responders, the teen was pronounced dead after being airlifted to a trauma center. The accident, which closed Route 347 for several hours, is currently under investigation by the State Police-Woodbine Barracks.

Phillies Poised to Be Major Players at MLB Trade Deadline
As the MLB All-Star break nears, the Philadelphia Phillies are emerging as strong World Series contenders, with industry expectations high for their activity at the upcoming trade deadline. Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports that the Phillies, alongside teams like the Dodgers, Yankees, Mariners, Padres, and Braves, are predicted to be key players in trade discussions. Despite injuries to stars such as Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber, the Phillies have maintained a powerful offense. However, enhancing their bullpen is seen as critical for a successful championship run, with Tanner Scott from the Miami Marlins cited as a potential acquisition to strengthen their pitching lineup. The next few weeks will be crucial as the Phillies decide whether to make significant trades or stick with their current roster, with trade talks anticipated to ramp up as the deadline approaches.
