Cape May Lewes Ferry Halted After WWII Bomb Found in Canal

Ferry service between Cape May and Lewes was temporarily halted Monday night after a World War II-era ordnance was discovered in the Cape May Canal. Authorities have not confirmed exactly what type of device was found, only identifying it broadly as unexploded military ordnance, which could range from ammunition to a bomb. The device was spotted during low tide, though how it was discovered has not been disclosed. The unexploded device was handled by a bomb squad while the Coast Guard secured the area. Service on the Cape May Lewes Ferry resumed by Tuesday morning, beginning with a 10:30 a.m. departure from Cape May. Officials extended thanks to all personnel who ensured passenger safety during the incident.
Grassy Sound Bridge to Shut Down for Scheduled Repairs Thursday Night

The Grassy Sound Bridge will be closed to vehicle traffic from 10 p.m. on Thursday, May 1, to 6 a.m. on Friday, May 2, for scheduled maintenance. During this time, drivers will be rerouted via a detour on both sides of Ocean Drive to the nearby 96th Street Bridge in Stone Harbor. The closure affects only vehicular traffic; boat traffic that requires the bridge to open will continue without disruption. The maintenance schedule may be adjusted depending on weather or other unforeseen circumstances, according to county officials. The Grassy Sound Bridge, a key connector between Stone Harbor and North Wildwood, is overseen by the Cape May County Bridge Commission.
Cape May Opens New Community Center with Ribbon Cutting and Tours

Cape May will celebrate the opening of its new Community Center at 110 Ocean Street with a ribbon cutting at 11:15 a.m., followed by public tours. After years of planning, the vision has become reality. Until now, the Recreation Department has operated programs across various venues in Cape May. With the opening of the new center, they now have a permanent location to expand offerings and bring people together. Current programs include group fitness and children's activities, but the department plans to add a variety of weekly gatherings, from bingo and crafts to card games and club meetings. Special events such as guest speakers and instructional clinics are also in the works.
