Tensions Escalate Over NJ Electricity Prices as Murphy Demands Federal Investigation

Governor Phil Murphy has asked federal regulators to investigate last year’s electricity capacity auction by PJM Interconnection, citing possible market manipulation behind expected electricity rate hikes for New Jersey residents starting June 1. Ratepayer advocates and another power generator have also filed complaints with FERC, demanding a new auction or consumer refunds. PJM attributes the high prices to New Jersey’s energy shortfalls, while FERC commissioners appear skeptical of political criticism. No decision has been made on the complaints, and the issue is heating up ahead of the June primaries.

Prospective candidates are instructed to report to the Beach Patrol headquarters at 44th Street and the Promenade between 8:45 a.m. and 9 a.m. on Saturday morning. The first stage of testing on Saturday includes a one-mile run along the Promenade and a half-mile ocean swim while carrying a rescue torpedo.
