Empire Wind Project Halted Near Jersey Shore Over Security and Environmental Concerns
The Trump Administration has ordered a stop to the Empire Wind offshore wind project planned near the Jersey Shore, citing rushed approvals, national security risks, and inadequate environmental review. The company behind the project, Equinor, is headquartered in Norway. The move marks another setback for offshore wind development in New Jersey, a state that has seen several large-scale renewable projects stumble in recent months. The decision follows a push by Rep. Chris Smith and is supported by a new GAO report warning of radar interference from offshore turbines. The move is seen as a major shift in the trajectory of offshore wind development near New Jersey.
