Cape May to Host Boater Safety Classes with Coast Guard Auxiliary

The Cape May Fire Department, Office of Emergency Management, and Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 82 will host boater safety classes throughout the summer. With South Jersey’s waterways seeing increased recreational use in the warmer months, officials are encouraging early registration and participation to promote safety and preparedness for the upcoming boating season. Open to all skill levels, the sessions will cover boating laws, safety gear, weather awareness, and emergency response. Classes will be held on April 26, May 31, June 21, July 12, and August 9 at the Cape May Fire Department. Register for the class here.
Traffic Stop in North Wildwood Leads to Drug and Weapon Arrests
A traffic stop in North Wildwood on April 10 led to the arrest of two Salem residents on drug and weapon charges. Police say James Sheeley was found with heroin, drug paraphernalia, and an illegal knife. A search of the vehicle uncovered additional narcotics allegedly linked to both Sheeley and passenger Tyler Hutton. Both men are currently being held at the Cape May County Correctional Facility. Authorities are asking anyone with additional information to contact the North Wildwood Police Department’s Detective Division.
REAL ID Required for Flights After May 7 in New Jersey

Just a reminder, as the deadline is looming. New Jersey residents must obtain a REAL ID by May 7, 2025, to use their state-issued license for air travel and other federal identification purposes. The REAL ID features a star in the upper corner and requires additional documentation to obtain. Standard licenses will still be valid for driving but not for boarding domestic flights. Appointments at the MVC are limited due to high demand as the deadline nears.
