Coffee Tyme Expands to North Cape May, Set to Open by Memorial Day
Coffee Tyme, a popular Cape May coffee shop, is opening a new location in North Cape May at the former Donut Connection site on Bayshore Road. In a nod to the building’s sweet history, the new shop will offer Donut Connection’s popular donuts alongside Coffee Tyme’s signature beverages and baked goods. That includes the coffee shop’s much-loved blueberry muffins, pastries, and espresso drinks that have made it a favorite stop for both locals and tourists. The expansion marks Coffee Tyme’s first location outside of Cape May’s core, bringing its familiar flavors and inviting atmosphere to residents and visitors of North Cape May. Set to open by Memorial Day Weekend, the shop will serve both its signature drinks and Donut Connection’s donuts.
Lower Township Residents Prevail in Fight Against Boat Storage Facility

Lower Township’s Zoning Board unanimously rejected a proposed boat storage yard in the Tranquility neighborhood after more than 150 residents voiced concerns over traffic, noise, and zoning integrity. While the initial plan called for the facility’s main entrance to be accessed via neighborhood streets, revisions were made to make Route 109 the primary entry point. Even with that change, residents and board members remained unconvinced. Ultimately, all seven board members voted against the proposal, despite the applicant being a fellow board member. Allegations of potential favoritism were dismissed during the meeting, as board members emphasized their impartiality and the weight of public feedback.
Before the Bridges: How Early Travelers Reached Cape May

Cape May’s roads date back to the 1600s when the Kechemeche tribe created trails that later became key travel routes. By the 1800s, ferries and wooden bridges connected the mainland to Cape May, but traffic bottlenecks worsened as cars became more common. The 1906 creation of Cape May Harbor boosted the fishing industry, while the Cape May Canal, built in 1942 during World War II, provided a safer passage between the Atlantic Ocean and Delaware Bay. Initial swing bridges installed in the 1940s caused severe summer traffic backups, leading to the construction of higher, more efficient bridges in the late 1960s and early 1970s. While congestion remains an issue today, modern bridges have significantly improved travel into and out of Cape May.
