Cape May County Task Force Nabs Suspect in Major Drug Bust

A North Wildwood man was arrested on March 21 following a multi-agency investigation into suspected drug distribution. Authorities say the arrest of 46-year-old Tahiem Howell came after law enforcement executed search warrants at his residence on the 200 block of East 17th Avenue.  Heroin, cocaine, cash, and paraphernalia was seized during a search of the suspect’s home. The individual faces multiple charges, including possession with intent to distribute, child endangerment, and money laundering. He remains in custody pending court action. He is currently being held at the Cape May County Correctional Center as he awaits court proceedings. In New Jersey, second-degree crimes carry potential prison terms of five to ten years upon conviction.

Dog Daycare Plan Rejected by Ocean City Zoning Board After Heated Debate

Ocean City’s Zoning Board rejected a proposal for a dog hotel and daycare on Seventh Street in a 4-3 vote, falling short of the five votes needed for approval. The plan drew strong opinions from both residents concerned about noise and waste and supporters seeking pet care options. Not all attendees opposed the project. Some residents and visitors argued that the business would fill a much-needed gap for dog owners, especially tourists who face restrictions on bringing pets to hotels or beaches. Supporters noted the inconvenience of traveling off the island for pet services, particularly during the busy summer months. While the City Council recently allowed such businesses to apply for licenses, zoning laws still prohibit kennels, requiring a variance the project could not secure.

NJ Trout Season Opens April 5 with 570,000 Fish Stocked Statewide

Trout season opens in New Jersey on Saturday, April 5, with 570,000 rainbow trout to be stocked across 175 rivers, lakes, and streams through May 23. To prepare for opening day, all stocked waters are closed to fishing until April 4. But beginning at 8 a.m. on April 5, anglers can return to their favorite spots. Regulations allow for a daily catch of up to six trout, each at least nine inches long, through the spring and summer. In the fall, the daily limit drops to four. Anglers can begin fishing at 8 a.m. on opening day. The state's Bonus Broodstock Program will also return, offering the chance to catch large, trophy-sized rainbow trout in each stocked waterbody. Lucky anglers who land six broodstock trout that meet the nine-inch length minimum can count them toward their daily limit.
