Cape May County Cuts Taxes Again in 2025 Budget, Boosts Infrastructure Spending

 

 Cape May County Commissioner Director Len Desiderio delivered the 2025 State of the County address, announcing a proposed $224 million budget that lowers the tax rate for the third consecutive year. The budget includes $100 million in infrastructure improvements and $35.6 million for road projects. Desiderio highlighted a zero-based budgeting approach, a rare tax levy reduction, and upcoming investments like a potential $22 million justice complex. He also emphasized the future development potential of the Cape May County Airport, pointing to long-term sustainability goals.  

Boardwalk Makeover: Ocean City Launches Accessibility Project at Music Pier Entrance

 Ocean City has started a $764,000 project to replace the Moorlyn Terrace Boardwalk ramp with a new, ADA-compliant version designed to improve accessibility and visual appeal. The project, largely funded by federal grants, is set for completion before Memorial Day. It's part of a larger effort that includes $3 million in city funds and nearly $5 million in state grants aimed at upgrading the Boardwalk’s structure, storm resilience, and accessibility without changing its width. These investments underscore Ocean City’s commitment to maintaining its most popular attraction, ensuring that the Boardwalk remains safe, accessible, and inviting for generations to come.

Jemison Marine Delivers Third Sister Ship for Cape May Fisherman

 Tim Jemison of Jemison Marine Inc. is about to complete a rare achievement in commercial boatbuilding with the launch of a third newbuild scalloper and bottom trawler for Warren Alexander of Atlantic Shellfish, based in Cape May, New Jersey. Jemison Marine, continuing a successful partnership that began with a vessel conversion in 2009. The newbuild, Nissa Kay, joins sister ships Ocean Queen and Ocean Pride and is outfitted for scalloping and herring fishing with advanced chilled storage systems. The new vessel is named in honor of Alexander’s significant other, reflecting a personal connection to the project. Now 72, Alexander brings decades of experience to the industry, having started in commercial fishing at the age of 13 on the docks of Cape May.
