Local Towns Push Back on Energy Rate Increase, But Resolution Faces Scrutiny

Three more Cape May County towns—Cape May, Upper Township, and Lower Township—have joined the opposition to a 17% increase in the electricity supply rate, passing a resolution drafted by the county. Stone Harbor tabled the resolution after a council member pointed out factual errors. The resolution inaccurately attributes the rate hike to Atlantic City Electric, even though it results from a regional auction process. The increase takes effect June 1. The resolution also calls for the BPU to reject an additional 8% increase in Atlantic City Electric’s distribution charge, a separate rate hike that is under review. A decision on that request is expected in April.
Redbook Picks Cape May’s Virginia Hotel as NJ’s Most Stunning Stay

Redbook has compiled a list of the "Absolute Prettiest Hotels in America," highlighting some of the most stunning stays across the country. The selection focuses on hotels that offer a mix of elegant interior design, charming architecture—ideally with historical significance—and picturesque surroundings to enhance the travel experience. In New Jersey, one standout destination earned a spot on the list. Located in Cape May, the Virginia Hotel was named the prettiest hotel in the state. This beautifully restored 1879 landmark is an adults-only retreat just one block from the beach. With its elegant design, including Belle Flower wallpaper from Cowtan & Tout and custom-designed furnishings by Colleen Bashaw, the hotel offers a sophisticated and relaxing seaside escape. Cape May is known for its charm and the Virginia Hotel’s glowing reviews and historical charm make it a prime choice for visitors seeking a stylish and tranquil getaway.
