Cape May NAACP to Honor Late Singer Lois Smith with Tribute Award

The Cape May County NAACP will honor the late gospel and jazz singer Lois Smith at the Freedom Fund Gala on March 15 by presenting an award in her name. Shirley Rebecca “Becki” Wilson will receive the inaugural Lois Smith Tribute Award for her dedication to education, social work, and community advocacy. A longtime leader in Cape May County, Wilson has served on multiple commissions and continues to champion equity and inclusion efforts.
LCMR’s Bagel Shop Returns After Student Petition Calls for Reopening

The Bagel Shop at Lower Cape May Regional High School, a student-run program providing real-world work experience for special needs students, temporarily closed to allow a staff member a break. Concerned students launched a petition, gathering about 800 signatures, urging its reopening. Superintendent Greg Lasher emphasized that the shop’s closure was only temporary, explaining that the staff member in charge simply needed a short break. He dismissed any rumors of administrative intervention and reiterated the school’s commitment to the program. School officials assured the community that the closure was only a short pause, and the Bagel Shop reopened on March 5.
City Summer Concert Series Welcomes Mickey Dolenz and Mavis Staples

Mickey Dolenz of the Monkees and Grammy-winning singer Mavis Staples will perform at the 32nd annual Summer Concert Series at the Ocean City Music Pier. Dolenz will take the stage on August 11, paying tribute to the Monkees, while Staples will perform on August 25, showcasing her legendary R&B and gospel hits.
