Historic North Wildwood Motel Faces Demolition for New Housing

The Chateau Bleu Motel in North Wildwood, a historic "Doo Wop" motel built in 1962, is at risk of demolition under a new development proposal. Built in 1962, the Chateau Bleu Motel stands as a prime example of the futuristic, neon-lit motel designs that defined The Wildwoods during the post-Garden State Parkway tourism boom. The plan seeks to replace the motel with three single-family homes. While the motel is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this designation does not prevent demolition. A public hearing on the proposal is scheduled for Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at North Wildwood City Hall.

Spielberg’s Latest Film Brings Unexpected Business to Local Shops

Steven Spielberg’s new UFO movie is bringing a rare wintertime economic boost to Cape May County as filming begins in Tuckahoe and Woodbine. Local restaurants, hotels, and businesses are benefitting from the influx of production staff and crew members, with some hotels reporting near-full occupancy during what is typically a slow season. Residents have also gathered to watch rehearsals, eager to glimpse the Hollywood action. There’s no word yet on the film’s title or when production will wrap, but for now, the presence of Hollywood in Cape May County is giving the local economy an unexpected lift.
