Cape May Point Science Center Launches Climate Institute to Tackle Coastal Challenges

The Cape May Point Arts and Science Center has launched the Climate Institute, led by climate expert Lara Croushore. The institute will focus on coastal climate challenges, integrating research, education, and policy solutions. It will host its inaugural Climate Summit on June 20–22, featuring scientific presentations, climate solutions, and networking opportunities. A collaboration with Columbia University will provide sustainability recommendations for the center. Community members and organizations are encouraged to get involved through partnerships, sponsorships, and event participation.

Help Train a Guide Dog: The Seeing Eye Needs Puppy Raisers

The Seeing Eye is seeking volunteers to raise puppies for about a year before they begin formal training to become guide dogs. The program provides support through local puppy-raising clubs, covering veterinary costs and offering training resources. With only eight families currently involved in Cape May and Atlantic counties, more volunteers are needed. The organization breeds Labrador retrievers, German shepherds, and golden retrievers, with around 70% successfully completing guide dog training. Those interested can apply through The Seeing Eye’s website.

Deep Divisions in NJ Democratic Party Emerge as Governor’s Race Heats Up

New Jersey Democrats are deeply divided as they head into the 2025 governor’s race, with moderates and progressives clashing over key issues like immigration and party identity. The recent debate highlighted these tensions, as frontrunner Mikie Sherrill distanced herself from more left-leaning candidates like Ras Baraka and Steve Fulop. Concerns over electability, messaging, and the party’s connection with moderates have grown since Donald Trump’s strong showing in New Jersey in 2024. Meanwhile, public frustration with machine politics adds another layer of uncertainty. With the Democratic primary approaching, the party must navigate these divisions to maintain control of the governor’s office.
