Cape May County Proposes Third Straight Year of Tax Cuts in 2025 Budget
Board of Commissioners Director Leonard Desiderio
Cape May County’s proposed 2025 budget includes a third consecutive tax cut, reducing the tax levy by $671,000—the first overall decrease since 1993. The budget, funded by $165 million in county taxes and $58.6 million in other revenue, focuses on major infrastructure projects, including bridge repairs, road improvements, and a new justice complex. Officials say the county remains financially strong and well-positioned to invest in essential services while easing the tax burden on residents. Public presentations will be held before a final vote on the budget.
Super Bowl Bets Boost Casino Revenues, but Horse Tracks Face Sharp Declines

New Jersey’s gaming industry saw a strong start to 2025, with internet gaming revenue surging 20.9% to $221.6 million and traditional casino gambling up 2.6% to $210.1 million. While some casinos posted gains, four reported declines. Sports betting results were mixed, with Super Bowl wagers rising but revenues at the state's two remaining horse tracks plunging. The December closure of Freehold Raceway contributed to a 29% overall drop in sports betting revenue. Analysts see the casino sector’s steady performance as a positive indicator for the year ahead.
Ciattarelli Falls Short as Spadea Secures Crucial Ocean County GOP Support

Bill Spadea secured a major victory at the Ocean County GOP convention, defeating Jack Ciattarelli 129-83 and earning the endorsement of New Jersey’s most influential Republican county. Despite support from the Lakewood Republican Club, Ciattarelli’s ties to a breakaway GOP faction in Toms River may have cost him key votes. With Ocean County holding the largest Republican voter base in the state, Spadea’s win could reshape the primary race, where Ciattarelli has led in early polling.
