NJ Electricity Rates to Soar as Murphy’s Green Energy Plans Stall

New Jersey electricity rates are set to rise by 17-20% as Governor Phil Murphy’s clean energy agenda faces setbacks. The state’s reliance on offshore wind has hit major roadblocks, with key projects collapsing and no operational wind turbines currently producing power. With renewable energy production lagging, the state is relying on fossil fuel-based electricity from neighboring states, leading to higher costs for residents. Critics argue that Murphy’s energy policies, including a ban on new gas-powered car sales by 2035, may not be sustainable given the state’s current power infrastructure.

Police Seek Vandals Who Defaced Public Restroom in North Cape May

Lower Township police are investigating graffiti vandalism at the public restroom on Lincoln Boulevard and Shore Drive in North Cape May. The facility, completed in 2023 at a cost of over $400,000, was targeted on February 23. Authorities are reviewing security footage and believe the incident may be connected to similar vandalism in Cape May. Cleanup efforts are already underway, but officials say they may need to repaint parts of the facility to fully remove the vandalism. Laffey expressed frustration over the incident, emphasizing the township’s ongoing efforts to improve public spaces..

Got Unused Cologne? Cape May Zoo Animals Would Love It

The Cape May Zoo is asking the public to donate old perfume and cologne bottles to enhance its scent enrichment program. This practice helps animals engage with their environment by mimicking natural behaviors. Interestingly, some animals have specific scent preferences. For example, big cats like lions and tigers have been known to favor Calvin Klein’s “Obsession,” though Cape May Zoo isn’t asking for any particular fragrance. Instead, they note that name-brand perfumes and colognes tend to be the most appealing to their residents. For those interested in donating, the zoo accepts perfume and cologne drop-offs at the Park Office on weekdays (except holidays) or at the zoo entrance between 10 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
