Sea Isle City’s Polar Bear Run-Walk Continues Tradition of Giving Back

The Mike’s Seafood Polar Bear Run-Walk for Autism returned to Sea Isle City on February 15, raising funds for autism-related support groups and families of special needs children. The event was organized by Mike Monachetti, whose own children are on the autism spectrum, and started as a way to give back. Over the years, attendance has soared, with 4,000 to 5,000 people coming out annually to support the cause. Despite early skepticism about a winter run, the event has become a staple at the Jersey Shore, attracting runners from local colleges and beyond. Monachetti’s dedication to the community has helped make this fundraiser one of the largest of its kind in South Jersey, proving that even in the cold of winter, people are willing to step up and support a worthy cause.
NJ MVC Expands REAL ID Services as Deadline Approaches

Only 14% of New Jersey drivers have upgraded to REAL ID-compliant licenses as the May 7, 2025, federal deadline approaches. REAL ID was introduced following a 9/11 Commission recommendation to enhance document security. Despite previous deadline extensions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, officials stress that no further extensions are expected. Residents are encouraged to act promptly to avoid delays. REAL ID will be required for domestic air travel, though passports and other IDs will still be accepted. The MVC has expanded appointment availability, including mobile units, and urges residents to act early to avoid last-minute rushes. Appointments can be made online for either a license renewal with a REAL ID upgrade or a standalone REAL ID appointment. The cost includes a $30 REAL ID fee, plus the standard license renewal fee of $30.50, totaling $60.50.
Gusts Up to 71 MPH Knock Out Power for Thousands in NJ

High winds knocked out power for thousands of residents across New Jersey on Sunday, as a cold front brought intense gusts that reached up to 71 mph in some areas. The powerful winds, recorded at Atlantic City International Airport and other locations, caused widespread damage and outages of up to 75,000 homes throughout the state. The hardest-hit areas included Monmouth, Ocean, Camden, and Mercer counties. Utility crews are working extended shifts to restore service, though high winds are hampering progress. Strong gusts are expected to continue into Monday.
