City Council Considers $2.2M Bond for Emlen Physick Estate Repairs

The City Council is considering a $2.2 million bond ordinance to fund preservation work at the Emlen Physick Estate. The Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts and Humanities, which leases the property, would use the funds for necessary repairs while adhering to historic preservation standards. Officials say a municipal bond would provide better financing terms than a bank loan. The project would not burden taxpayers, as MAC is expected to cover repayment. Public response has been largely supportive, and a formal bond ordinance is expected to be introduced soon.

Property Tax Update: NJ Opens New Online Application for Eligible Homeowners

New Jersey residents aged 65 and older or those receiving Social Security disability benefits can now apply online for property tax relief through a single application covering ANCHOR, Senior Freeze, and Stay NJ. The form is available at propertytaxreliefapp.nj.gov, with paper applications being mailed by early March. Applicants must verify their identity through ID.me for online submissions. If fully funded, these programs could cover up to 50% of a homeowner’s property tax bill, capped at $6,500. Payments for ANCHOR and Senior Freeze begin in July 2025, while Stay NJ payments are expected in 2026. The deadline to apply is October 31, 2025, with detailed benefit explanations sent to homeowners later that year.

E-ZPass Users Warned About New Toll Payment Text Scam

Scammers are sending fake text messages claiming drivers owe money for unpaid tolls in Massachusetts or California. These fraudulent messages, impersonating EZDriveMA and FasTrak, contain links leading to phishing websites designed to steal personal and financial information. While the scam primarily targets Massachusetts and California, drivers in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware have also been affected. Authorities warn that E-ZPass and other toll systems never send text messages about unpaid tolls. If you receive one, delete it and check your account directly for any real toll charges.
