After 40 Years in the Booth, Cape May County’s Last Toll Collector Bids Farewell

Cape May County’s last full-time toll collector, Rick Shetler, will soon retire as the county transitions to all-electronic tolling on April 1. Shetler, 65, started working as a toll collector in the summer of 1980, when the toll was just 30 cents. Over the years, he became a quiet fixture in the booth, watching the seasons change, engaging in brief chats with locals, and witnessing the ever-growing use of E-ZPass, which was introduced in 2018. Now, with about 90% of drivers using the automated system, the Cape May County Bridge Commission has decided to remove the remaining toll collectors to save an estimated $400,000 to $500,000 annually. While 12 part-time toll collectors will remain as bridge tenders, Shetler is preparing to move on as the job that became his second home comes to an end.
Eagles Announce Super Bowl Victory Parade for Friday in Philadelphia

Philadelphia will celebrate the Eagles' 2025 Super Bowl victory with a massive parade on Friday, following the same route as the 2018 championship parade. The procession begins at 11 a.m. from the South Philadelphia Sports Complex and ends at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, where a victory ceremony will take place from 2 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. SEPTA and PATCO will offer free and modified transit services, while Philadelphia public and Catholic schools will be closed for the celebration. After days of snow and rain, the National Weather Service is predicting a mostly sunny day on Friday, with a high near 36 degrees Fahrenheit—chilly but clear conditions for Eagles fans ready to celebrate their team’s championship win.
