Cape May Commissioners’ Still Resisting Transparency

Residents at the January 28 Cape May County commissioners' meeting pushed for greater transparency in local government, citing a recent report ranking the county poorly in that area. Speakers compared the county’s practices to more open policies in other municipalities, calling for increased access to meeting audio and public participation. Officials noted recent improvements, such as making meeting recordings available within 72 hours, but residents urged them to go beyond the minimum legal requirements. One Wildwood Crest resident pointed out that his borough’s government allows public access to meeting audio and remote participation, questioning why the county could not implement similar measures. He pressed the commissioners on the importance of broader public engagement. Commissioner Director Leonard Desiderio acknowledged the concerns but remained unmoved.

Wawa Plans Expansion in Wildwood with New Fueling Station

Wildwood may soon be home to a new Wawa convenience store and gas station, pending approval from the City of Wildwood Zoning Board. The proposed location at 3400 New Jersey Avenue would replace the existing Wawa at 3200 New Jersey Avenue and include a 6,372-square-foot store with a five-dispenser fueling station. If approved, it would be the island’s first centrally located gas station and the first new fueling station since 2022. The zoning board will review the application on February 10, though no construction timeline has been announced.

New Jersey’s Democratic Primary: A Tight Race That Could Reshape State Politics

New Jersey’s 2025 Democratic primary is shaping up to be a competitive race with six strong candidates in contention. The candidates are Steve Sweeney (65), Ras Baraka (55), Steve Fulop (47), Josh Gottheimer (49), Mikie Sherrill (52) and Sean Spiller (49). The recent elimination of the county line system, which previously favored party-endorsed candidates, has created a more open field. Experts believe this could increase voter turnout, though it may also push candidates toward more extreme positions. With Governor Phil Murphy unable to seek reelection, the race is expected to be one of the most significant in years.
