North Cape May Home Search Leads to Drug-Related Arrests

Two Lower Township residents were arrested on January 29 after authorities executed search warrants at their home and vehicles, uncovering crack cocaine, prescription drugs, drug distribution paraphernalia, and cash. Kevin Powell was charged with multiple offenses, including drug distribution and resisting arrest, and remains in custody. Elizabeth Singh faces similar charges but was released on a summons. The arrests were part of a multi-agency investigation, and both individuals could face significant prison time if convicted.

Governor Murphy Vows to Press On as Shell Withdraws from Wind Project

Shell has withdrawn from New Jersey’s first offshore wind farm, Atlantic Shores, dealing a major setback to the state’s renewable energy goals. The company cited financial concerns and will write off nearly $1 billion. Despite Shell’s exit, Atlantic Shores says it will continue moving forward with the project, but its timeline remains uncertain. This follows Ørsted’s previous cancellations of two wind farms and recent federal policies slowing offshore wind development. Opposition from some local officials and legal challenges also continue to complicate New Jersey’s offshore wind ambitions.

End of an Era: Aging Cape Henlopen to Be Retired for High-Tech Successor

The Cape May-Lewes Ferry is set to replace its aging Cape Henlopen vessel with a state-of-the-art hybrid ferry designed for greater efficiency and reliability. The new vessel will use diesel engines as generators to charge batteries that power electric motors, reducing fuel consumption by up to 30%. This upgrade is part of a long-term plan to transition the ferry system to full electrification. The $74 million project, partially funded by a federal grant, is expected to be completed in two to three years.
