Cape May Mayor Highlights Progress and Future Plans in State of the City Address

Mayor Zach Mullock’s fifth State of the City address highlighted Cape May’s achievements in preservation, sustainability, and infrastructure, including the protection of key historic sites and progress toward renewable energy. Major announcements included a settlement to begin work on Lafayette Street Park, $25 million in FEMA funding for seawall improvements, and a $40 million plan to replace the city’s desalination plant. Mullock also prioritized affordable housing, emphasizing the need to support workers and first responders who can no longer afford to live locally. He praised community involvement and urged continued civic engagement to maintain Cape May’s vitality.

Eminent Domain Costs Rise as Ocean City Faces $7.2M Ruling

Ocean City has been ordered to pay $7.2 million to Palmer Center LLC for two properties acquired through eminent domain in 2021. The land, part of a larger initiative to preserve a five-block corridor as open space, was the subject of a prolonged legal dispute over its value. The city also faces unresolved questions about environmental cleanup costs for the contaminated property. The ruling is part of Ocean City’s broader effort to prevent dense housing development and transform the land into public recreational space. Short-term beautification efforts are planned, with long-term designs to be developed later.

From Cape May to Madison: The Inspiring Journey of NJ’s Shakespeare Theatre

The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey, now based in Madison, traces its origins to Cape May as "The Shakespeare Festival of New Jersey." After decades of challenges, including venue damage and financial struggles, the company found stability in the 1990s under the leadership of Bonnie Monte. Today, it thrives at the F.M. Kirby Shakespeare Theatre, offering diverse productions like Macbeth and Sense and Sensibility while expanding its educational programs. New artistic director Brian Crowe aims to grow the company’s classical theater footprint and continue inspiring young and adult learners alike.

Eagles Soar to Super Bowl LIX with Record-Setting NFC Championship Win

Jalen Hurts had a standout performance with three rushing touchdowns and 246 passing yards, while Saquon Barkley added 118 rushing yards and three scores. The Eagles capitalized on four Commanders turnovers to dominate the game and secure their 15th win in 16 games.
