Wildwood’s Polar Bear Plunge Raises $355K for Special Olympics New Jersey

The 19th annual Polar Bear Plunge in Wildwood brought hundreds of participants to the icy Atlantic on Saturday, raising $355,000 for Special Olympics New Jersey. With over 1,000 registered plungers, including teams like the Salem County FOP Lodge 6, the event highlighted the community's dedication to supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities. Another Polar Bear Plunge is set to take place in Seaside Heights on February 22.

Van Drew Proposes Pause on Wind Farms Amid Environmental and Economic Concerns

Congressman Jeff Van Drew has proposed an executive order, drafted for President-elect Trump, to impose a six-month moratorium on offshore wind development. The pause would allow federal agencies to review the industry’s impacts, including concerns about fishing, environmental effects, and ratepayer costs. Critics of offshore wind claim it harms marine life and local businesses, while supporters argue it is essential for combating climate change. The moratorium could delay New Jersey’s first offshore wind farm, as developers face increasing challenges under a shifting federal climate agenda.

Babysitter Found Unresponsive, Toddler Left Outside in Freezing Temperatures

A Ventnor City babysitter was charged with child endangerment after being found unconscious from alcohol consumption while a toddler in her care wandered outside in freezing weather. The neighbor who found the child alerted authorities, who later determined the babysitter, Jena Davidson, had consumed alcohol from the family’s home. The toddler’s parent, who had hired Davidson through an online childcare service, was notified and returned home immediately. Davidson was hospitalized and now faces second-degree child endangerment charges.
