Cape May MAC’s 2025 Auction: Unique Items Supporting Historic Preservation

Cape May MAC (Museums+Arts+Culture) is gearing up for its highly anticipated 2025 Fundraising Auction, set to launch on Saturday, February 1. This year’s event promises a remarkable selection of items to bid on, including rare, beautiful, and one-of-a-kind treasures that could be just what you're looking for. Proceeds will fund the restoration of the historic Emlen Physick Estate. The auction helps meet matching grant requirements and bolsters preservation efforts for this iconic landmark. Otter at Cape May Zoo Recovering After Life-Threatening Stroke

Ariel, a 16-year-old otter at Cape May Zoo, recently survived a stroke following complications from sedation during a veterinary exam. She was rushed to Cape Veterinary Clinic, where emergency care helped her recover. Now more alert and mobile, Ariel is being closely monitored in the zoo’s medical ward. At 16, Ariel exceeds the average life expectancy of river otters, making her recovery even more remarkable. Ariel was brought to Cape May Zoo in 2023 as a companion for another otter, Mork.

Coast Guard Transfers Coastal Habitat to Cape May Wildlife Refuge

The Cape May National Wildlife Refuge has expanded by 532 acres following a land transfer from the Coast Guard, protecting critical habitat for migratory shorebirds and preserving undeveloped beach and dune ecosystems. The addition will enhance conservation efforts and provide opportunities for off-season recreation like birdwatching and fishing, benefiting the local economy. Formerly part of the Coast Guard's LORAN Support Unit, the land’s transfer highlights the refuge's importance in protecting migratory species along the Atlantic flyway.
