Cape May Crowned Best Fishing Town in New Jersey for 2024

Cape May has been named the best fishing town in New Jersey for 2024 by FishingBooker, a charter booking platform that evaluates towns based on charter availability, reviews, and bookings. The town edged out other well-known fishing spots like Atlantic City, Ocean City, and Belmar. Known for its excellent fishing conditions and diverse marine life, Cape May offers year-round opportunities for anglers. Across the river, Lewes, Delaware, earned the top spot in its state.

Developers Keep Building, but Insurers Are Dropping NJ Coastal Homes

Home insurance non-renewals in New Jersey are on the rise due to increasing climate risks, including rising sea levels, severe storms, and wildfires. A recent report from the U.S. Senate Budget Committee highlights that nearly 2 million home insurance contracts nationwide have not been renewed since 2018. New Jersey ranked 8th in the country for the rate of non-renewals from 2018 to 2023, with Cape May, Hudson, and Atlantic counties experiencing the highest spikes. Experts warn that, without intervention, real estate markets could suffer as premiums soar and coverage becomes unavailable. Similar situations have already occurred in Florida, where the government had to step in to provide coverage after private insurers pulled out.

Feature Film by Cape May Twins Debuts at Harbor Square Theatre

On December 22, twin brothers Nate and Noah Wenker premiered their first feature-length film, "Bloodlust," in Stone Harbor’s Harbor Square Theatre. The action-packed sci-fi movie was filmed entirely in Cape May County, using local residents as actors. After two years of production and a $2,000 budget, the twins released the 97-minute film, now available on YouTube. Now college students pursuing degrees in filmmaking—Nate at Rowan College’s Cumberland campus and Noah at Asbury University in Kentucky—the Wenker twins have ambitious dreams of becoming major film producers. Reflecting on their journey, Nate emphasized the importance of perseverance, while Noah encouraged aspiring filmmakers to stay dedicated to their vision.
