Commissioners Approve Transparency Measure, Decline Live Broadcasts
Cape May County commissioners have approved a resolution to release meeting audio within 72 hours, aiming for improved transparency. The decision follows Commissioner Will Morey’s previous calls for quicker public access. Suggestions to broadcast meetings live and hold sessions at more accessible times were not adopted. During the reorganization meeting, Leonard Desiderio was sworn in for another term as commission director and praised for his long-standing leadership. Commissioners were also assigned various departmental responsibilities.
Wildwood Crest Woman Charged in Fatal New Year’s Eve Hit-and-Run
A 76-year-old woman from Wildwood Crest, Marilyn Glenn, has been charged in a fatal hit-and-run incident that occurred on New Year’s Eve in Wildwood. The victim, a 66-year-old pedestrian, was struck by a yellow Chevrolet Trax while crossing the street. Glenn initially left the scene but later contacted the police. After an investigation, she was charged and briefly jailed before being released under pre-trial monitoring. The court imposed driving restrictions and a no-contact order with the victim’s family. Glenn faces charges including reckless driving and failure to report an accident.
Two Big Lottery Wins in Burlington County Mark New Year’s Transition
Burlington County saw big lottery wins on both sides of the new year. A Jersey Cash 5 ticket sold at Murphy’s Fresh Markets in Tabernacle won $657,679 on January 1, 2025, while a $494,401 jackpot ticket was sold at ShopRite in Hainesport on December 27, 2024. As a reward for selling the winning tickets, both Murphy’s Fresh Markets and ShopRite will receive $2,000 bonuses. New Jersey residents hope these back-to-back wins signal continued luck in the new year.
