Beach Protection Project Sparks Pushback from Cape May Communities
The Hereford Inlet to Cape May Inlet Dune and Beach Berm Project, designed to protect North Wildwood from severe beach erosion, is raising concerns in neighboring Wildwood Crest, Wildwood, and Lower Township. Local officials fear that sand removal for the project could drastically shrink their beaches, harm tourism, and disrupt existing infrastructure. While North Wildwood supports the initiative, other communities have voiced their opposition, citing potential environmental, aesthetic, and economic impacts. Discussions between local leaders and state officials are ongoing, with the project’s future hanging in the balance.
Cape May’s Landmark Status Now Reflects African American Heritage
Cape May has amended its National Historic Landmark status to include recognition of its African American heritage, a first for the county. Significant projects, such as the Harriet Tubman Museum and the restored Franklin Street School, highlight this effort. Officials also honored Warren Copeland, chair of the Historic Preservation Commission, for his pivotal role in preserving the city’s history. A proposed task force aims to further educate the public about Cape May’s African American legacy.
Investigation Underway After Woman Found in Little Egg Harbor Lagoon
An elderly woman was found deceased in a lagoon behind a home on North Boom Street in Little Egg Harbor Township early Sunday. Police recovered the body, and investigators believe the death, which does not appear suspicious, was an apparent drowning. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the woman or further details about the circumstances surrounding her death. Efforts are underway to determine the events leading up to the incident.

From New Year’s Day to Valentine’s: Timing Your Decoration Take-Down
The timing for taking down Christmas decorations varies widely, according to a recent report on the Today Show, experts suggesting three main approaches: New Year's Day, The Epiphany on January 6, or anytime through early February. Every family’s situation is unique. Whether it’s waiting for a loved one in the military to come home, navigating health challenges, or simply enjoying the festive spirit a little longer, there’s no one-size-fits-all answer. Some argue that with the time and expense involved in setting up holiday displays, it’s only fair to enjoy them for as long as they bring joy. So, whether your decorations come down on January 2 or stay up until Valentine’s Day, your choice is perfectly valid—and supported by neighbors who appreciate the spirit of the season.
