Cape May Moves Closer to Land Swap for New Police Facility
Cape May has proposed a land swap to obtain 0.14 acres of Green Acres land on Lafayette Street for a new police facility. In return, the city would designate 6.6 acres of its Sewell Tract as protected parkland. The approval process, which has been ongoing since April 2022, included a public hearing by the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to gather community input. A new hearing on the matter is scheduled for January 21, 2025, at 6 p.m. in the City of Cape May City Hall Auditorium. Additionally, the city has outlined procedures for submitting written comments on the proposal via its website, providing residents with further opportunities to weigh in on the plan.
Builders Push Back, Ocean City Tables Dumpster Ban Proposal
Ocean City Council tabled a proposed ordinance regulating construction dumpsters and trailers following opposition from builders and contractors. The ordinance sought to ban dumpsters over 10 yards and require trailers to be removed from streets nightly, aiming to alleviate parking issues. Contractors argued it would increase costs and inefficiencies, urging collaboration to address concerns. Council plans to revise the proposal with input from stakeholders.
