Two Wildwood Residents Face Charges in Child Sexual Assault Case

Two men from Wildwood, Arisandro Estrada-Tapia, 20, and Israel Estrada-Tapia, 18, were arrested on December 24 for allegedly sexually assaulting two minors. Both face multiple charges, including first-degree aggravated sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child. Authorities urge anyone with information regarding this case to contact the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit at 609-465-1135. Both suspects remain presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

End of an Era: Six Flags Great Adventure to Close World’s Tallest Coaster

Kingda Ka, the world’s tallest roller coaster at Six Flags Great Adventure, will be permanently closed and demolished in February 2025. This decision marks the end of an iconic era as the park undergoes a significant transformation following its merger with Cedar Fair. The park is retiring several older attractions, including Green Lantern and the Parachute Training Center, to make way for modern, record-breaking rides like “The Flash: Vertical Velocity” in 2025 and another major launch coaster in 2026. The closure of Kingda Ka reflects both nostalgia and excitement as the park embraces a new chapter of innovation.

From Retreat to Research: Inside Cape May’s Science Center Transformation

Once a luxury hotel in the late 1800s and later a summer retreat for the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Philadelphia, the 135-year-old building in Cape May Point has been transformed into the Cape May Point Science Center. The building, which nearly faced demolition in 2019, was repurposed after the Mullock family proposed its conversion into a science and education hub. In March 2022, the Cape May Point Science Center was officially established, aligning its mission with the Sisters’ commitment to environmental stewardship. Opened in 2023, the center has welcomed over 5,000 visitors and launched initiatives like Project Monarch to study butterfly migration. In partnership with Rutgers University, it houses an antenna for research projects and serves as a Station Keeper for MotionInfo, helping track boat traffic to protect the endangered North Atlantic Right Whale. Collaborations with Columbia University’s Sustainability program also support efforts like Cape May's proposed desalination plant. The center preserves its legacy as a former luxury hotel and retreat for nuns while addressing environmental and community needs.
