NJ Governor: Mysterious Drones ‘Sophisticated but No Threat to Safety’

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy addressed the ongoing mystery of sophisticated drones sighted across the state, describing their advanced capabilities but assuring residents they pose no threat to public safety.  The sightings, which have been reported over homes, neighborhoods, and even military installations, have alarmed residents across New Jersey and New York in recent weeks. Many have shared footage on social media, capturing blinking lights and unusual movements. One recent video from Bergen County showed several drones silently hovering and moving in formation.  Authorities, including federal agencies, are investigating the numerous sightings, which have sparked alarm and viral social media footage. A briefing scheduled for later this week aims to shed more light on the situation.

Ocean City Residents to Gain More Parking Under New Rules

Ocean City has introduced an ordinance to ban large construction dumpsters and trailers from parking on public streets overnight, a move expected to free up 700–800 parking spaces. The measure, which restricts dumpsters to daytime use and requires them to be placed directly in front of construction sites, aims to address parking shortages at no taxpayer expense. Councilman Terry Crowley emphasized that the initiative reflects the city’s collaboration with residents and the administration to find practical solutions. “We’re increasing parking across the island at no cost to the taxpayer. This is a commonsense solution that benefits everyone,” Crowley said. The ordinance will undergo a final vote on Dec. 17.
