Holiday Woes: Package Theft Reports Climb Across Atlantic and Cape May Counties

Porch piracy is rising in South Jersey, particularly during the busy holiday season. Despite widespread use of surveillance cameras, thieves continue to target packages left on porches. Residents and law enforcement frequently turn to social media to identify suspects, but the crimes persist. Residents in Atlantic and Cape May Counties are urged to remain vigilant. Bringing packages inside promptly or arranging alternative delivery methods can help prevent theft. It’s a reminder to stay one step ahead of the "porch pirates" lurking in our neighborhoods.

Cape May County Firefighters Swiftly Contain West Wildwood Avenue Blaze

A fire on West Wildwood Avenue on December 4 displaced three residents but caused no injuries. Quick action by the Wildwood Fire Department and supporting units limited damage primarily to the building’s exterior. The blaze was controlled in 15 minutes, with crews remaining on-site for two hours. The Cape May County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire. Additional support was provided by off-duty Wildwood firefighters and units from Wildwood Crest, Rio Grande, and Stone Harbor. Middle Township Ambulance Corps provided firefighter rehabilitation services, while Wildwood Crest EMS offered on-scene medical assistance. Wildwood Police also supported the response efforts.

Historic Wonderland Pier Site Faces Tensions Over $155M Hotel Project

The owner of Ocean City’s Wonderland Pier, Eustice Mita, defended his proposed seven-story hotel during a contentious public meeting but expressed willingness to sell the property if opposition persists. The $155 million project aims to revitalize the iconic boardwalk site but has drawn criticism for potentially disrupting the town’s character and infrastructure. Residents voiced concerns about overcrowded beaches, large-scale development, and the loss of Ocean City’s family-oriented charm. For now, the fate of the "ICONA at Wonderland" proposal remains uncertain as community members and city officials weigh its potential impact.
