Higbee Beach Project Rebuilds Vital Habitat in Cape May County

The Nature Center of Cape May, a key institution for conservation and education at Cape May Harbor, transitions leadership from longtime Director Gretchen Whitman to Emily Reed. Under Whitman, the center grew into a vibrant community resource, and Reed aims to build on this legacy with a vision of inspiring environmental stewardship through immersive programs. Located at 1600 Delaware Avenue, the center continues its mission to protect and celebrate nature.
$1M Grant Boosts Avalon’s Sustainable Marina Revamp
Avalon Borough has received a $1 million grant to construct a 750-foot living shoreline at Bay Park Marina, as part of a larger sustainability and flood mitigation project. The funding is part of a broader $139 million initiative by the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation and NOAA to support nature-based coastal management solutions across 31 states. Avalon’s grant is one of four awarded in New Jersey and requires matching funds from the borough to fully utilize the grant. Avalon’s project is one of four grants awarded in New Jersey and aims to inspire similar efforts in the region.
