Atlantic City Electric Seeks Another Rate Hike to Fund Grid Upgrades

Atlantic City Electric has requested an 8% rate increase, raising average monthly bills by $12.96, to fund infrastructure upgrades, grid modernization, and energy programs. The proposal follows a year of significant rate hikes and increasing public concern over rising electricity costs, some of which are driven by state-mandated energy initiatives. Customers have already experienced significant cumulative rate increases. The year leading up to June 1, 2024, saw an average 15% increase in bills due to multiple approved hikes. This triggered widespread public complaints, with some ratepayers citing unexplained surges in their bills. Hearings were held both locally and in Trenton, and elected officials, including Rep. Jeff Van Drew, demanded transparency on rising electricity costs. The New Jersey Office of Rate Counsel has voiced concerns that the financial impact of the state’s energy transition goals is disproportionately falling on ratepayers. ACE has emphasized its commitment to reliability and its available programs to assist customers struggling with rising energy costs.

Marketing Campaign Drives Wildwoods to New Tourism Milestones in 2024

Tourism in the Wildwoods reached new heights in 2024, with revenue from January to August surpassing 2023’s record by 3%. Direct spending rose by $374 million, and tourism tax revenue increased by 4%. A marketing campaign promoting the region’s beaches, boardwalk, attractions, and festivals played a key role in the success. This year’s campaign emphasized the Wildwoods as the ideal vacation destination, promoting its expansive free beaches, a vibrant 38-block boardwalk with three amusement piers and over 100 attractions, and three beachfront waterparks. The promotional efforts also highlighted the area’s dynamic calendar of over 150 events and festivals held annually. These efforts have reinforced the Wildwoods’ reputation as a top choice for travelers, contributing to the region’s record-setting tourism performance.

Final Boat Tag Ride May Be Lost Forever After Snowstorm

The iconic Boat Tag ride, originally opened in the mid-1980s on Morey’s Adventure Pier, Boat Tag became a family favorite for its thrilling gameplay. Participants navigated tank-like boats, aiming ball cannons at targets and suspended “bombs” while dodging incoming shots. Despite having no winners, the ride offered an unforgettable, action-packed experience. The ride now located at Malacari’s Produce & Deli in Pennsylvania, has been severely damaged by a winter storm. The structure housing the ride collapsed under heavy snow, and its future is uncertain. As the last known Boat Tag in operation, its potential loss signals the end of a unique piece of amusement history.
