Horses and Officers from Across North America Train in Cape May County

Cape May County is hosting the largest mounted police training seminar in New Jersey, featuring officers and horses from six U.S. states, federal agencies, and Canada. On Thursday, Cape May City will see mounted police in action as officers conduct formation rides through the city streets and along the beach. Two separate groups, each consisting of about 30 horses, will be operating simultaneously. One group will perform formation exercises, while the other will engage in simulated crowd scenarios near Mansion Street. These drills may include loud noises and smoke between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Drivers in the area are advised to proceed with caution. While the sight of horses and officers is sure to draw attention, the Sheriff’s Office reminds the public that these horses are in training and should not be approached during these sessions.
