Coastal Flood Advisory Issued for Atlantic and Cape May Counties
The National Weather Service has issued a coastal flood advisory for Atlantic and Cape May counties, effective until 2 p.m. Monday. Minor flooding is possible, with up to half a foot of inundation in low-lying areas. A flood advisory signals potential inconveniences due to minor flooding, which may escalate if caution is not exercised. Unlike a flood warning or flash flood warning, which indicate imminent or ongoing flooding, an advisory suggests a need for awareness and preparedness. Residents are advised to prepare for potential road closures, protect flood-prone property, and follow safety guidelines to avoid risks associated with floodwaters.
Top Stafford Educator Charged with DUI, Reckless Driving in Alleged Incident
Stafford Township Superintendent George J. Chidiac has been charged with DUI and other driving offenses following an alleged crash on October 27 in Berkeley Township. Police claim Chidiac’s vehicle struck a utility pole, and he was found walking away from the scene. He was arrested after allegedly failing a field sobriety test. His municipal court hearing is set for December 16.
Two Large Sharks Tracked Near Jersey Shore in One Week
Anne Bonny, a 9-foot juvenile white shark tagged by OCEARCH, was tracked off Toms River this week. The shark, known for traveling along the Atlantic coast, surfaced Thursday following another large shark, Scot, who appeared near Manasquan Inlet. Anne Bonny’s tracker pings when she surfaces for at least 90 seconds, with her last appearance near New Jersey recorded in November 2023. Just days before arriving off Toms River, she was south of Nantucket Island, Massachusetts. The shark’s name honors Anne Bonny, a legendary female pirate known for navigating the waters around Cape Hatteras in the early 1700s.
