Wildwood Junior Lifeguard's Training
Saves Choking Classmate
Billy Carberry, a 13-year-old junior lifeguard from Wildwood, recently saved a pre-kindergarten student at his school in Philadelphia. During lunch on October 23, Billy noticed the younger student, Christopher, choking and quickly applied the Heimlich maneuver, dislodging a piece of fruit leather that was blocking his airway. Billy credited his lifeguard training for his ability to respond under pressure. The Wildwood Beach Patrol, which trains junior lifeguards in safety and first aid, recognized Billy’s heroism by presenting him with an award.

Answer to the November 7th Trivia Question
What notable natural phenomenon found on the beaches of Cape May is often mistaken for actual gemstones and is sold as souvenirs?
A) Cape May Rubies
B) Cape May Emeralds
C) Cape May Diamonds
D) Cape May Sapphires
Answer: C) Cape May Diamonds
"Cape May Diamonds" are quartz pebbles that have naturally tumbled smooth along the Delaware River before washing up on the beaches of Cape May. Though often mistaken for gemstones due to their clarity and sparkle, these quartz pebbles are sought after by beachgoers and can be cut and polished to resemble diamonds. Their journey, shaped by water and time, gives them their smooth, clear appearance, making them popular as souvenirs and even in jewelry. Cape May Diamonds capture the local coastal charm and offer a unique, natural keepsake for visitors.
