Experience the Jersey Devil Legend at Somers Mansion’s Spooky October Event

The 4th annual “Spooky Tales of the Jersey Devil” will take place at Somers Mansion on October 30, featuring a bonfire, local author Scott Macom’s Jersey Devil stories, and live performances. The evening will include unique “Jerseyana” oddities, a touch of humor, and even a special appearance by a coven of witches. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and dress for the weather. Light snacks, T-shirts, and copies of Devil Leeds will be available for purchase. Proceeds from the event support the preservation of the historic Somers Mansion, Atlantic County’s oldest surviving home.

Canceled Projects, Higher Bills: The Troubled Path of Offshore Wind in NJ

New Jersey’s offshore wind plans have encountered significant challenges, from rising utility costs to canceled projects. Despite ambitious goals, the early performance of offshore wind has been mixed, prompting bipartisan concern and calls for a reevaluation of the state's energy strategy. Grassroots and environmental groups warn of potential ecological risks, while rising costs continue to burden ratepayers. Offshore wind was pitched as a way to lower energy costs for families, but in reality, it’s driving up utility rates. State and federal incentives aimed at easing costs have not lived up to their promises, with energy executives warning of continued rising electricity prices. Governor Phil Murphy's goal of reaching 11,000 megawatts of offshore wind capacity by 2040 looks increasingly unrealistic, as major projects like Ørsted's Ocean Wind I and II have been canceled despite billions in subsidies.

Cape May’s Third Recreational Dispensary Nears Completion, Awaits State License

In 2023, New Jersey’s cannabis sales topped $800 million, but growth has been hindered by regulatory delays. INSA, a multi-state cannabis retailer, awaits final approval from the NJ CRC to open its first New Jersey dispensary in Middle Township, Cape May County. Despite securing local approvals and nearly completing the facility, the final license decision is anticipated in December. The site, located at a familiar Route 9 intersection, would become Cape May County’s third recreational dispensary.
