Bigfoot, UFOs, and Jersey Devil: New Jersey's Surprising Sightings
New Jersey has reported 2,926 UFO sightings and 72 Bigfoot sightings. As for the Jersey Devil, the state's infamous cryptid, it has garnered its own share of attention. A Fairleigh Dickinson University poll revealed that one in six residents believes the Jersey Devil could be real. Over the years, numerous sightings have been documented, even earning mentions on official sites like Atlantic County's webpage. The creature's ties to local folklore and figures like Captain Kidd continue to fuel speculation and fascination. Despite skepticism, these numbers reflect the state's deep interest in unexplained phenomena, with locals continuing to report unusual experiences.
New Jersey Offers $150K Loan Forgiveness for Mental Health Workers
New Jersey is offering up to $150,000 in student loan forgiveness for mental health professionals through its Behavioral Healthcare Provider Loan Redemption Program. Eligible professionals include licensed social workers, counselors, psychologists, and psychiatrists, among others. For every two years of clinical work at an approved nonprofit, educational institution, or government agency, the state will forgive $50,000 in student loans, with the potential for up to $150,000 in total forgiveness over six years. Those working with children can earn up to $30,000 in additional incentive grants. Applicants have until October 31 to apply, with selections to be announced in February 2025.
Voice Behind Wildwood’s Iconic Tram Car Message Files Lawsuit
Floss Stingel, who recorded the iconic “Watch the tram car, please” message in 1971, has filed a lawsuit against Wildwood, alleging that her voice has been used without consent for over 50 years. After a failed attempt to secure copyright in 2010 due to pre-1972 recording laws, Stingel was prompted to take action upon discovering plush tram car toys featuring her voice were being sold for profit. Stingel, now seeking fair compensation, publicly announced her lawsuit in front of the tram car store on Tuesday. Her lawyer is seeking compensation for the decades of commercial use.
