Warmer Temps, Less Snow Expected in New Jersey for Winter 2024-2025
AccuWeather’s 2024-2025 winter forecast predicts warmer-than-average temperatures and less snowfall for New Jersey and much of the eastern U.S. Key factors driving this forecast include unusually warm water in the Gulf of Mexico and northern Pacific, a weak La Niña weather pattern, and a strong polar vortex. These elements are expected to prevent major snowstorms from developing in the eastern states. The warm waters of the Gulf could lead to milder air masses affecting the central and eastern U.S., while the Pacific’s warm waters may alter storm patterns on the West Coast. With La Niña remaining weak this winter, variability is likely to play a larger role, though the strong polar vortex may keep cold Arctic air contained to the North.
Tragic NJ Transit Accident: Train Operator Dies, Passengers Injured
New Jersey tax preparer Emmanuel Amenyo pleaded guilty to preparing false tax returns, leading to over $250,000 in fraudulent refunds. These tax returns falsely claimed charitable contributions, itemized deductions, child and dependent care expenses, and other qualified expenses to which Amenyo and his clients were not entitled, resulting in improperly large tax refunds, as Amenyo knew and intended, according to authorities. He now faces up to three years in prison and a $250,000 fine, with sentencing set for April 1, 2024.
End of an Era: Gillian’s Wonderland Pier Bids Farewell to Ocean City
More on a story we have been following for a couple of months now. Gillian’s Wonderland Pier in Ocean City closed its doors for good after its final weekend, marking the end of nearly 100 years on the boardwalk. Owner Mayor Jay Gillian cited financial struggles as a key factor, and the future of the property remains uncertain under new ownership by local businessman Eustace Mita. This emotional closure comes just weeks after the death of the park's founder, Roy Gillian, who, like his son, served as Ocean City’s mayor. Roy Gillian passed away at age 94, leaving behind a rich legacy tied to the community and Wonderland Pier.
