One witness who was on the train, described the terrifying scene to local media, recalling the sight of several individuals with serious injuries. Authorities are still investigating.

NJ Faces 10-Year Deadline to Replace Thousands of Lead Pipes Under New Federal Rule

New Jersey is facing a significant challenge in replacing over 140,000 known lead service lines, as a new federal rule mandates a 10-year deadline for all states to remove lead pipes. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates that up to 9 million homes nationwide are served by "legacy lead pipes." The state has been allocated $44.2 million in federal funding to help address the issue, with nearly half of the funds directed to disadvantaged communities. With lead exposure posing serious health risks, New Jersey continues to push toward its goal of replacing all lead pipes by 2031.
