Ocean City Council Rejects Alcohol Sales as Future of Wonderland Pier Remains Unclear

The Ocean City Council has reaffirmed its position to keep the city dry, confirming that no alcohol sales will be permitted for the foreseeable future. Concerns had arisen about the possibility of developer Eustace Mita obtaining a liquor license if he builds a hotel on the site of Wonderland Pier. Resident Frank Worrell commended the council for their decision and praised the cooperation between Councilman Keith Hartzell and Mayor Jay Gillian at a recent public meeting. Wonderland Pier is set to close in mid-October, with future plans for the site expected to be announced by Mita at the end of the year.

Proposed NJ Law Would End Beach Badge Confusion for Surfers and Fishers

A new bill introduced in New Jersey would exempt surfers and fishers from needing beach badges to access tidal waters. This follows a controversial arrest in Belmar last summer, which raised questions about whether surfers must pay for beach access. The new bill would resolve this discrepancy, making it clear that surfers and fishers don’t have to pay to access the water. However, this legislation will not apply retroactively, meaning it won’t affect the case of the Belmar surfer.

Police Request Tips to Identify Suspects in September 22 Restroom Assault

The North Wildwood Police Department is asking for the public's assistance in identifying three suspects involved in an assault at Exit 6 Bar on September 22. The first suspect is described as a white female with long brown hair, wearing a bluejean jacket, green pants, and carrying an across-body purse. The second suspect is another white female with brown hair, wearing a green shirt and black skirt, and has a tattoo on the back of her right bicep. The third suspect is described as having short brown hair, wearing a dark green shirt, and has several tattoos on the left arm. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the department or submit tips anonymously via the TEXT-A-TIP system.

Phillies Close Regular Season Strong with 6-3 Victory, Eye NLDS Showdown

In the Phillies’ final regular-season game, pitcher Aaron Nola survived a 99 mph line drive to his right side, continuing to pitch for five innings and securing his 14th win. The Phillies won 6-3, ending the season with a 95-67 record, which secured them home-field advantage should they face the Yankees in the World Series. With a bye during the wild-card round, the team now focuses on preparing for the NLDS, where they’ll face either the Brewers, Mets, or Diamondbacks. Though their second half of the season was inconsistent, the Phillies remain optimistic about their postseason prospects.

Jalen Hurts, Eagles’ Offense Falter in Embarrassing Loss to Buccaneers

The Eagles were soundly defeated 33-16 by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, raising concerns about their performance and effort under head coach Nick Sirianni. The team was outplayed from the start, with two turnovers and a lackluster offense that managed just 69 yards by halftime. Jalen Hurts extended his turnover streak, while the defense struggled to contain Tampa Bay’s Baker Mayfield. The Eagles are now 2-2, with questions surrounding their ability to meet high preseason expectations.
