Coast Guard Rescues Four in Two Separate Incidents Near Absecon Inlet

The U.S. Coast Guard Station Atlantic City rescued two girls aged 11 and 14, who were swept out to sea on surfboards around 11:47 a.m. after Brigantine police alerted the Coast Guard.  The second incident occurred just over two hours later, when two adult men on inner tubes found themselves in distress along Absecon Inlet. Both rescues took place under challenging weather conditions, with 12 mph winds and 4-foot seas, further highlighting the Coast Guard's preparedness for all types of emergencies.

Cape May Challenges New Climate Rules: Too Much, Too Soon, Says City Manager

Cape May officials and community leaders expressed concerns over the DEP’s proposed climate regulations, citing potential economic strain and advocating for a more gradual approach to implementing higher elevation requirements for buildings. While some leaders support the initiative to combat rising sea levels, other local leaders, including Cape May Mayor Zack Mullock and Cape May County Chamber President Barbara Stafford Jones, shared similar concerns about the economic impact of these rules on residents and local shore communities. An informational meeting will be held on October 7 in Lower Township to discuss the regulations, which could affect 67% of local residents.

Cape May Woman Shares Special Bond with Rescued Ducks Bonnie and Clyde

At her New Jersey home, Jennifer Dowe cares for two affectionate ducks, Bonnie and Clyde, who have become more like family than farm animals. Rescued in 2018, the duo prefers spending time indoors with Dowe rather than mingling with the outdoor flock. Their attachment to her is clear—whether it’s watching TV or playing hide and seek, Bonnie and Clyde’s behavior mirrors that of small children. Each day, they spend time in an outdoor area Dowe affectionately calls "ducky daycare," but always return home excitedly to reunite with her. Dowe has even built a special ramp to allow them to move easily between their indoor space and the outdoor area. Their bond highlights the unique relationship these two ducks share with their duck-mom!

Phillies Lock Up First-Round Playoff Bye, Brandon Marsh Thanks Fans

The Phillies secured a first-round playoff bye after a 9-6 victory over the Cubs, with outfielder Brandon Marsh thanking fans during the team’s final regular-season home game. The Phillies finished the season with a 54-27 home record, their second-best since 1900, and drew over 3.3 million fans to Citizens Bank Park, marking one of the highest attendance figures in franchise history.  They are guaranteed at least the No. 2 seed and could still achieve the top spot, but manager Rob Thomson will prioritize rest for key players ahead of the postseason.
