Wildwood Moves Forward with Boardwalk Revamp, Construction Starts October

Wildwood has awarded a $4.17 million contract to Fred M. Schiavone Construction for Phase 6 of its Boardwalk Renovation Project. The work, set to begin in October 2024 and finish by May 2025, will refurbish the section from Spicer Avenue to Montgomery Avenue. The project is part of a larger effort funded by the $100 million New Jersey Boardwalk Preservation Fund to restore and maintain the historic boardwalk.

Cape May Scooter Crash Claims Life of 27-Year-Old Navy Officer

Ronald Shousky, a 27-year-old U.S. Navy officer from Philadelphia, died following a scooter crash in Cape May County. The accident occurred on September 13, and he passed away from his injuries on Wednesday. Shousky, who was wearing a helmet, did not hit any obstacles, and the crash remains under investigation. Shousky, a Master of Arms 2nd Class Petty Officer, had been staying in North Cape May while on leave. He is survived by his wife, parents, brothers, grandparents, and extended family.

Blue Whale Spotted Off Cape May: A Once-in-a-Lifetime Encounter

Passengers aboard the American Star witnessed a rare sighting of a blue whale off the coast of Cape May, New Jersey, marking an extraordinary event for both the passengers and marine experts. The whale, likely from the Western Northern Atlantic Stock, was observed for about 15 minutes before diving deep. In addition to the blue whale, other marine life, including fin whales, dolphins, and a mobula ray, were also spotted. Such sightings provide valuable research opportunities to better understand the local marine ecosystem.

Wheeler Shines, but Phillies Drop Series to Mets and Postpone Division Crown

The Phillies dropped three of four to the Mets, delaying their NL East title celebration. Despite Zack Wheeler’s excellent outing in the finale, the Phillies fell 2-1. Their magic number to win the division is two, and they’re also battling for a first-round bye and possibly the top seed in the National League. The Phillies finish their season with games against the Cubs and Nationals, while the Mets, Dodgers, and Brewers will battle tough opponents in the final week.

Injuries and Eagles’ Defense Derail Saints’ High-Powered Offense

The Philadelphia Eagles overcame turnovers and key injuries to secure a gritty 15-12 win over the New Orleans Saints. Jalen Hurts struggled with turnovers, but Saquon Barkley carried the team with two touchdowns, including a game-winning 4-yard run late in the fourth quarter. The Saints' offense, despite a strong start, couldn't capitalize on key opportunities, and the Eagles' defense made crucial stops to secure the win.
