$1.128 Billion Mega Millions Jackpot Still Unclaimed by New Jersey Winner

A New Jersey winner has yet to claim the $1.128 billion Mega Millions jackpot from March 2024. This jackpot ranks as one of the largest in Mega Millions history, joining a list of top 10 jackpots, including a record-breaking $1.602 billion won in August 2023 by a Florida player. The winner has until March 2025 to claim their winnings. Under state law, winners can remain anonymous when collecting their prize. If the ticket remains unclaimed, the money will return to state lottery funds.

Bipartisan Push for Hearings as NJ Residents Struggle with Soaring Electric Costs

Record-breaking heat and increased energy consumption caused a surge in New Jersey electric bills, prompting bipartisan calls for hearings. Atlantic City Electric customers saw usage rise by 20%, with some families' bills increasing by hundreds of dollars. Concerns over rising electricity costs have gained the attention of state and federal lawmakers. New Jersey Democrats from the 3rd, 4th, and 8th legislative districts have requested a hearing with the NJBPU to address the issue. U.S. Rep. Jeff Van Drew, R-2nd Dist., urged an investigation into whether smart meters are contributing to the problem and called for a moratorium on utility shut-offs and rate hikes. The state has introduced the Residential Energy Assistance Payment (REAP) program, offering a one-time $175 credit to eligible residents struggling with utility bills. However, many families who cut back on groceries and canceled vacations, fear that without long-term solutions, these rising costs will continue to strain middle-class households.

Cape May County Bridges Set to Go Cashless by Early 2025

The Cape May County Bridge Commission plans to end cash toll payments by early 2025. The majority of drivers already use E-Z Pass, and those who continue using cash will receive toll invoices by mail, with a $50 fee for late payments. The change affects five bridges along Ocean Drive, the Ocean City-Longport, Townsends Inlet, Corsons Inlet, Middle Thorofare, and Grassy Sound bridge. The commission anticipates that this shift to a cashless system will encourage more people to adopt E-Z Pass.

Phillies Miss Another Chance to Clinch Playoff Spot in 10-6 Loss to Mets

The New York Mets continued their hot streak with a 10-6 win over the Philadelphia Phillies, making history by scoring 10 runs in three consecutive games for the first time. Philadelphia missed a chance to clinch a playoff spot, while the Mets are pushing for the final NL Wild Card. Four Mets homered off Taijuan Walker, who struggled in his first start since August.
