Fall Brings Changes to Wildwood Boardwalk as Attractions Close for the Season
The Wildwood Boardwalk remains open year-round, but many businesses and attractions begin to close after Labor Day. Morey’s Piers, a major draw, has set its closing dates, with Surfside Pier and the water parks already closed and Mariner’s Pier staying open weekends until October 13. Some shops and restaurants will remain open through fall events, like the Irish Festival in late September, but most will close by mid-October. Meanwhile, boardwalk reconstruction will begin in October, affecting certain sections until early May 2025. A few businesses, like arcades and candy shops, will stay open year-round.
Nine NJ Towns File Lawsuit Against Affordable Housing Law Overreach
Nine New Jersey towns, led by Montvale, have filed a lawsuit challenging a new state law signed by Gov. Phil Murphy in March, which aims to standardize affordable housing obligations. The towns argue the law represents state overreach and removes local control over development. Proponents, including housing advocates, defend the law as necessary to address the state's housing crisis. The lawsuit disputes aspects of the Mount Laurel doctrine, which mandates municipalities provide affordable housing opportunities. The case was filed in Mercer County Superior Court.
$20M Grant to Fund New Hybrid Ferry for Cape May-Lewes Route
The Delaware River and Bay Authority (DRBA) received a $20 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation to replace a 40-year-old diesel ferry serving the Cape May-Lewes route with a diesel-hybrid model. The new ferry will significantly reduce emissions and fuel consumption, supporting environmentally sustainable operations. The grant, announced by Senators Tom Carper and Chris Coons and Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester, aims to modernize the fleet while promoting clean energy and maintaining the ferry’s role in boosting regional tourism and economic activity.
Phillies-Mets Preview
The Mets’ offense, after a recent slump, showed signs of breaking out with a late surge in Wednesday’s game against the Blue Jays. They will face the Phillies, who are battling injuries but still pose a potent threat, especially with Bryce Harper’s hot streak. New York’s bullpen is well-rested, and Ryne Stanek could emerge as the top setup reliever. Luis Severino continues his strong stretch with a 1.95 ERA over his last five starts, positioning him as a key player for the Mets in this upcoming series.
