Cape May Man Arrested in Connection to Dennis Township Shooting Incident
One suspect, Jamar Antoine Lovett, has been arrested following a shooting in Dennis Township that led to the closure of local schools. The shooting occurred after a homeowner confronted two suspects stealing a dirt bike, one of whom fired shots. A second suspect remains at large. Lovett faces multiple charges, including armed robbery, unlawful possession of a handgun, and aggravated assault. He is being held in Cape May County Jail, and the investigation is ongoing.
Town Hall Expected to Address Concerns Over Future of Gillian’s Wonderland Pier
The future of Gillian’s Wonderland Pier in Ocean City remains uncertain after Mayor Jay Gillian announced its closure following the 2024 season due to financial challenges. A town hall meeting, while not focused on Wonderland, is expected to bring up concerns about its fate. Businessman Eustace Mita owns the property, but no redevelopment plans have been announced. A nonprofit, Friends of OCNJ History & Culture, advocates keeping the theme park open, citing its historical significance and economic impact.
Iconic Campbell Soup Changes Name to Reflect Broader Product Portfolio
After 155 years, Campbell Soup is changing its name to "The Campbell's Company" in November 2024, pending shareholder approval. The rebrand aims to showcase the company’s wider product range, but some argue that the original name has a stronger connection to its long-standing legacy, questioning whether this change is necessary or beneficial. Campbell Soup has long been a household name associated with comfort and nostalgia. The decision has drawn comparisons to other rebrands, like Weight Watchers becoming WW and Facebook turning into Meta, with many believing the original name holds more resonance.
Zack Wheeler Shines as Phillies Edge Rays, Extend Winning Streak
Weston Wilson’s infield single on his birthday led the Phillies to a 3-2 win over the Rays, completing a sweep. Zack Wheeler earned his 15th win, backed by strong defense and a solid bullpen. The Phillies have won 9 of 11 games and are off Thursday and expect to have both Schwarber and J.T. Realmuto back for a crucial three-game series against the Mets starting Friday. The Mets, battling for the final NL wild-card spot, will face the Phillies seven times in the next 16 games.
