Jersey Shore Extends Festivities and Business into Shoulder Season

Shoulder season at the Jersey Shore, extending from post-Labor Day to mid-November, is crucial for local economies, as highlighted by Seaside Heights Mayor Tony Vaz. This period features several events like the Wine Fest and American Angler Day, which attract tourists and support local businesses, including those on the boardwalk that remain open year-round. The season helps extend operational periods for many businesses, contributing significantly to the economic health of shore towns. Cape May has the Monarch Festival later in September as welk as the Lima Bean and Pumpkin festivals in October. Some of the other local Shoulder Season events to happen include:

Boat Owner Safe After Vessel Found Ashore in North Wildwood

A large-scale search operation was launched after a boat washed ashore in North Wildwood, New Jersey. The U.S. Coast Guard and local authorities initiated the search along the Wildwood coast. The boat was discovered early Friday morning near First and Surf avenues. Fortunately, the boat's owner was found safe in a hotel room later that morning. The circumstances leading to the boat washing ashore are still unclear, and the North Wildwood Police Department is conducting an ongoing investigation.

Local Angler’s Big Catch Leads to Million-Dollar Victory in Regional Fishing Contest

The boat "Deadicated" from Mantoloking, Ocean County, clinched the top prize of $1.13 million in the MidAtlantic Tournament by catching a 795-pound blue marlin. This significant win was highlighted during the tournament's 33rd annual event, held from August 18-23. Other notable winners included "Dem Boys" with a 760-pound marlin, earning $497,714, and "Gret’s Three J’s" with a 638-pound marlin, taking home $134,576. The tournament distributed over $5.7 million in cash prizes across various categories, marking its third-largest payout. For a complete list of winners, visit the tournaments website.

Phillies Pound Marlins 16-2

The Philadelphia Phillies triumphed over the Marlins with a commanding 16-2 victory, propelled by Zack Wheeler's strong pitching performance. Wheeler's six-inning stint, allowing just one run, bolstered his bid for the National League Cy Young Award. The Phillies set a season record for runs, aided by a Marlins' bullpen game due to a starting pitcher scratch. The team amassed 22 hits, a season high, with all starters recording at least one hit. J.T. Realmuto left the game due to a knee injury, impacting the dynamic as Stubbs took over.
