South Cape May: The Lost Borough Reclaimed by Nature
South Cape May, established in 1894 in New Jersey, was initially a shore resort intended to attract wealthy visitors but struggled due to frequent hurricanes and flooding. It saw a brief population increase during the Great Depression but was ultimately abandoned after devastating storms in 1936 and the Great Atlantic Hurricane in 1944 destroyed it. The area, once rich in property but later depleted, was dissolved into Lower Township and has since been transformed into the South Cape May Meadows Nature Preserve, a conservation area managed by The Nature Conservancy, focusing on habitat restoration and flood control.
152 Teaching Positions Unfilled in New Jersey’s Third-Largest City
Paterson Public Schools in New Jersey faces a significant challenge with 152 teaching vacancies as the new school year approaches. Superintendent Laurie W. Newell has implemented strategies to manage the shortage, including employing substitutes, combining classes, and using a virtual teaching platform called Proximity. Despite these efforts, the district continues to actively recruit by advertising and hosting job fairs. Last year, Paterson offered bonuses to attract teachers, but the costly program was discontinued due to its ineffectiveness. The district aims to fill these vacancies while maintaining educational standards.

Schwarber finished with three homers, a double, and six RBIs. His performance was crucial as the Phillies needed the win to maintain their lead over the Braves and Mets in the standings.
