U.S. Rep. Jeff Van Drew Requests Public Hearing on South Jersey's Electricity Bill Surges

U.S. Rep. Jeff Van Drew has called for a public hearing and a thorough investigation into the dramatic rise in electricity bills in South Jersey. He urged the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities to explore possible causes, such as offshore wind turbines or smart meter installations, and to halt any further rate increases until these issues are clarified. Van Drew emphasized the financial strain on residents, exacerbated by ongoing high inflation, and demanded immediate action to address and alleviate these cost burdens. He called for a “thorough investigation with a public hearing, and until we have answers, any energy hikes should be immediately halted.” Van Drew said that South Jersey residents should not be “forced to shoulder this additional burden, especially at a time when record-high inflation is already straining household budgets under this administration. I demand the NJBPU take immediate action to alleviate this strain and protect our residents from these unjust financial burdens.”

Witnesses Needed: Seagull Injured by Baseball Thrown in Avalon

Authorities in Cape May County are investigating an incident where a child allegedly injured a seagull by throwing a baseball at it. The bird, found with a broken wing in Avalon, was reported to Animal Control. Officials are asking for witnesses to come forward. Officials are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact either Shore Animal Control Services at 1-800-351-1822 or the Avalon Police Department at 609-967-3411.

Trespassing Charge for Woman Seen Provoking Tiger in Bridgeton Zoo Video

A woman has been charged with defiant trespassing after videos showed her taunting a tiger at Cohanzick Zoo in Bridgeton. The tiger was one of two 7-year-old Bengal tigers living at the zoo. Zyair J. Dennis, 24, allegedly entered a fenced enclosure and provoked the zoo's animals, leading to her identification and subsequent charge. Dennis has been scheduled to appear in Bridgeton Municipal Court at a future date.

Nola's Pitching Mastery and Castellanos's Blast Lead Phillies Past Astros

Aaron Nola helped the Philadelphia Phillies secure their fourth consecutive win with a 5-0 victory over the Houston Astros. Nola pitched seven shutout innings, striking out six, and walking one. This win tied him with Cole Hamels for the most wins at Citizens Bank Park. The Phillies' offense supported Nola, highlighted by Nick Castellanos's three-run homer. Justin Verlander, despite throwing well for five innings, gave up four runs during a rough third inning. The Phillies maintain their strong lead in the NL East, building momentum as they continue their winning streak.
