Casting Call: NJ Residents Wanted for Kathryn Bigelow's Latest Project

Kathryn Bigelow, the first woman to win the Oscar for Best Director, is currently shooting a new Netflix movie in New Jersey. The film, centered around a crisis in the White House, requires various local extras for scenes including a basketball game and government workers. Bigelow's project, still untitled, also seeks local military veterans and a golfer to serve as a photo double. Interested parties are invited to apply and contribute to a production by a renowned filmmaker known for "The Hurt Locker" and "Zero Dark Thirty." Happy Gilmore 2 is also currently casting for a New Jersey Shoot.

Whale Watching Hits Peak Season in New Jersey with Rare Sightings

Large numbers of whales, including the endangered North Atlantic right whales, are gathering in the New York Bight, an oceanic area between the Jersey Shore and Long Island. This congregation is attributed to abundant food sources in the area, prompting NOAA to implement and recently expire slow zones to protect these marine animals. Local boaters are advised to remain vigilant and maintain slow speeds to avoid endangering the whales. Observations from whale watching groups and researchers indicate a significant increase in whale sightings this season, with multiple species feeding on local fish populations. The area's coastal upwelling is also thought to be contributing to the high levels of marine activity, making it an exceptional year for whale watching in New Jersey.

Police Dog Detects Narcotics During Wildwood Crest Traffic Stop

A police K-9 named Quest helped the Wildwood Crest Police Department in a narcotics bust during a traffic stop on August 16. The stop, conducted by Officer Tyler Lavender, occurred around 3:10 a.m. at Denver Road and Atlantic Avenue. Quest indicated the presence of narcotics around the exterior of the vehicle, leading to a search that uncovered suspected cocaine, Xanax, ecstasy, drug paraphernalia, and cash suspected to be from narcotics sales. Matthew Monroe, 38, from Philadelphia, was arrested and faces multiple drug-related charges, including intent to distribute near a public park and money laundering. Monroe was also charged with traffic violations and was held at Cape May County Correctional Center.

Phillies Maintain Lead Over Braves as Teams Prepare for Pivotal Series

The Philadelphia Phillies are set to face the Atlanta Braves without encountering the Braves' top pitcher, Chris Sale. The Phillies will start Zack Wheeler and Aaron Nola in the first two games, with Cristopher Sanchez potentially pitching on Thursday, depending on his condition following a recent complete game. The Braves, dealing with injuries, will not have Sale pitch in this series; instead, Reynaldo Lopez and Max Fried, both recently off the injured list, will start. This series is crucial as the Phillies aim to maintain their seven-game lead over the struggling Braves.
