‘Capestock’ 2024 Brings Woodstock Vibes to Cape May Beach

 The City of Cape May is set to dazzle music enthusiasts with its 2024 Summer Concert Series and the third annual Capestock Music Festival, hosted at Convention Hall. The concert series, which began on July 7, features a variety of performers including Donavon Frankenreiter, Sunday, August 11th, and John Oates, Thursday, August 15th.  Capestock spans three days and will showcase tribute bands playing hits from iconic Woodstock artists like Jefferson Airplane, Santana, and The Who. Capestock 2024, from August 16-18, promises three days of musical homage to Woodstock legends. On Friday, August 16, performances include Everyday People (Sly and the Family Stone), Hotlanta (The Allman Brothers), and Just Like Janis (Janis Joplin). Saturday's lineup features Reverend Jefferson (Jefferson Airplane), Who’s Next (The Who), Kensington Clearwater Revival (CCR), and Tuesday’s Gone (Lynyrd Skynyrd). The festival concludes on Sunday with Inca (Santana), Broken Arrow (Neil Young), and Splintered Sunlight (The Grateful Dead). The festival begins at 4 pm on Friday and at 2 pm on Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are $45 for individual days or $150 for a three-day pass.

Sunset Beach: Home to Historic Shipwrecks and Stunning Sunsets

 Cape May is a cherished destination, valued equally in both summer and winter for its tranquil beaches and charming downtown. Highlights of a visit include climbing the historic Cape May Lighthouse, which offers breathtaking views from the top, and exploring the nearby state park and nature center. Visitors can enjoy exhibits on local wildlife, and historical tours that delve into the area’s significant World War II heritage, complete with remnants like a beachside bunker and a lookout tower. The area is also known for stunning sunsets at Sunset Beach, where the remains of the concrete ship SS Atlantus can be seen.

Two Mile Beach Unit Offers Exciting Summer Activities for All Ages

 The Two Mile Beach Unit in Cape May County is a hidden gem offering nature trails, a protected beach, and a visitor and nature center. Located at 12001 Pacific Ave, Wildwood Crest, the center is open Wednesday to Monday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Visitors can explore displays, purchase nature-related items, and find various information. Upcoming Events at the Two Mile Beach Unit

  • Painting Classes: Award-winning local artist Janet McShain will conduct Plein Air painting classes on August 1 & 15, and September 5. A $5 donation is requested, and supplies will be provided. Participants should bring a hat and sunscreen.

  • Nature Story and Activity Hour: This event is held every Thursday morning from 10 to 11 a.m. throughout the summer, engaging children with stories and activities.

  • Nature Walks: Every Saturday at 9 a.m., families can join free, family-friendly nature walks. Loaner binoculars are available, but bringing water and sunscreen is advised.

  • Bike & Hike: Visitors can ride their bikes to the refuge daily between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. After completing an activity, they receive a free sports pack and goodies for the family.

  • Junior Wildlife Refuge Manager Badge Scavenger Hunt: This daily activity allows children to earn a Junior Manager badge.

  • Completed Rain Barrels: For a $25 donation, visitors can take home a completed rain barrel, perfect for conserving water in a backyard garden. Contact the Nature Center for more details.

  • Wild Walk Wednesdays: Refuge Ranger Sam Dill leads these special walks every Wednesday from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 2:30 p.m.
