Condé Nast Traveler recognizes Cape May as one of America's best beaches.

Cape May Beach in New Jersey has been recognized as one of the top beaches in the United States by Condé Nast Traveler. The publication's list of the best beaches in the country includes only 24 locations, placing Cape May alongside other renowned beaches like South Beach in Miami and Honokalani Beach in Maui. Despite New Jersey's numerous beautiful beaches, Cape May was the only one from the state to make this elite list, highlighting its stunning appeal and historic significance.

Jersey Shore's Lighthouses Celebrate National Day

New Jersey's 11 historic lighthouses will be celebrated on National Lighthouse Day on August 7.  Despite ongoing efforts by lighthouse leaders across the country, this date has not been officially designated in perpetuity by Congress despite its establishment for specific years in 1989 and 2013. The date marks the anniversary of the first federal lighthouse commissioning. Efforts to make the recognition permanent continue, but each year the lighthouse community still celebrates with activities such as tours and presentations to honor America’s lighthouse heritage. The Lighthouse Challenge of New Jersey event is set for October 19 and 20, inviting visitors to explore these iconic beacons

Our own Cape May Point Lighthouse, first illuminated on October 31, 1859, was closed for half a century before reopening to the public in 1988. Now fully restored, the lighthouse shines its beacon nearly 19 miles into the Atlantic, continuing its historical role in aiding navigation.

Cape May Witnesses Active Shark Near Its Beaches

For the third recent occurrence, a shark was spotted close to shore in Cape May, New Jersey, stirring excitement and curiosity among beachgoers. The shark, believed to be a juvenile, was seen swimming actively just feet from the sand, visible both by its dorsal and tail fins. This sighting follows two other recent shark encounters along the Jersey Shore, including a fisherman hooking a small Great White shark near Little Egg Harbor in June, and another sighting near Townsends Inlet in July. These events highlight the natural wildlife activity in the area and offer a fascinating glimpse into the marine ecosystem for locals and visitors alike. Cue the music.

Phillies Top Dodgers 6-2 Amid Earthquake and Home Runs

The Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-2 in a significant National League matchup. During the game, a magnitude 5.3 earthquake struck, but it caused no interruption or noticeable reaction from the crowd at Dodger Stadium. Cristopher Sánchez pitched six strong innings for the Phillies, contributing to the Dodgers' three-game winning streak coming to an end. Key moments included back-to-back ninth-inning home runs by Edmundo Sosa and Kyle Schwarber, bolstering the Phillies' lead. Clayton Kershaw, starting for the Dodgers, pitched 4 2/3 innings, allowing one run. The game also saw Freddie Freeman hit his 500th career double.
